If you have sufficient income the required residence time for Norwegian citizenship is less. If you have sufficient income, you are required to have resided in Norway six out of the last ten years.

If you are going to live outside of Norway for more than two years, you will normally lose your permanent residence permit, but you can apply to keep it.

With a permanent residence permit you can reside and work in Norway indefinitely. The permit also gives you extra protection against expulsion. If you spend too much time abroad, your permit may be revoked.

If you are travelling outside of Norway, you must bring a valid passport and residence card.

You do not need to complete Norwegian language training to obtain a permanent residence permit if you have passed all four parts of the Norwegian exam at level A2 or higher, or if the municipality has granted you an exemption.
